St Saviour Church, Oxton
Steve Burnett used a branch from a sycamore tree to carve three outstanding violins at Craiglockhart military war hospital, where Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon were treated. He also recently completed a violin in honour of Robert Graves, who met Owen and Sassoon in Edinburgh.
As part of the Wilfred Owen Commemoration 2018, St Saviour will be hosting the War Poet Violins in concert alongside Catherine Walker and Neil McLennan. This evening will feature performances as well as a discussion of the life of Wilfred Owen at Craiglockhart.
Music featured in the performance:
It’s a long way to Tipperary
Arrangement of Elgar
Pack up your troubles
My love is like a red, red rose
The Battle of the Somme
